Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective July 13, 2026
In plain English
We collect what we need to run your business software and nothing else. We do not sell your data, and we never will. Your customer records live in a database in your own account — not ours.
Who we are
Owlsight ("Owlsight", "we", "us") provides technology consulting and business software to trade businesses. This policy explains what we do with personal information. It applies to https://owlsight.app, to the Owlsight platform, and to the mobile app.
There is an unusual thing about our architecture that changes what this policy can even mean, so it is worth stating up front.
The customer owns the database. That is not marketing.
When we set up an Owlsight customer, the Supabase project holding their business data, the Sanity project holding their website content, and the Stripe account taking their payments are all created in ACCOUNTS THEY OWN AND PAY FOR. We build and operate the software that runs on top of it.
That means there are two very different relationships in play, and you need to know which one you're in:
- IF YOU ARE AN OWLSIGHT CUSTOMER: your business data is yours, in your infrastructure. We access it to build, support and improve your system — but we are a service provider to you, not the owner of the records. This policy covers what WE do.
- IF YOU ARE A CUSTOMER OF AN OWLSIGHT CUSTOMER — a homeowner whose plumber uses our software — then that business, not Owlsight, is the controller of your information. We process it on their behalf. Ask them for their privacy policy; if you have a request we can't act on for you directly, we will route it to them.
What we collect
When you visit the website
- Pages you view, roughly where you are (from your IP address), and what brought you here.
- Anything you type into the contact form — your name, email, phone, trade, and what you wrote.
We use privacy-respecting analytics. We do not run advertising trackers, we do not build a profile of you across other websites, and we do not sell what we see.
When you are a customer
- Account details: name, business name, email, phone, billing address.
- Payment information — handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- The business records you put into the platform: your customers, jobs, quotes, invoices, and so on.
- Support and consulting correspondence, including notes from your monthly business review, so we can actually remember what we agreed last month.
When you use the field app
- Who you are and which company you belong to.
- LOCATION — but only if the Workforce Location module is switched on by your employer, only while you are CLOCKED IN, and only after you have consented on that specific device. The detailed trail is deleted automatically after a retention window your employer sets (capped at 90 days by the database itself, so a bug cannot turn it into a year of your movements). We built it that way on purpose.
What we do with it
- Run the software, and fix it when it breaks.
- Provide the consulting, support and monthly business reviews you're paying for.
- Take payment.
- Send you things you asked for — appointment reminders, invoices, service notices.
- Improve the product. Aggregated and anonymised; we do not read one customer's data to build a feature for another.
- Comply with the law.
What we will never do
These are commitments, not preferences:
- WE DO NOT SELL PERSONAL INFORMATION. Not to anyone, not for any price, not ever.
- We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use your business's data to train a general-purpose AI model. When you use an AI feature, your prompt goes to the AI provider you configured, under their terms, to answer your question — and that's it.
- We do not hold your data hostage. Leave whenever you like and take all of it; it was never in our account.
Who we share it with
Only the companies we need to run the service, and only what they need. The current list is on our Sub-processors page, and it is a short list on purpose.
We will disclose information if the law genuinely requires it. If we are legally permitted to tell you first, we will.
Text messages
Phone numbers collected for SMS are used for that purpose and are NOT shared with third parties for marketing. Consent to receive texts is never sold or transferred. See our SMS Terms for the full disclosure.
How long we keep it
- Your business records: as long as you're a customer, and then until you tell us to delete them.
- Location data: automatically deleted on the retention window described above.
- Billing records: as long as tax law requires, which is longer than either of us would like.
- Website analytics: 14 months.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, get a portable copy, or object to how we use it. Californians have specific rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete — and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information, which is easy for us to honor because we do not sell it.
To exercise any of this, email hello@owlsight.app. We will not discriminate against you for asking. We aim to respond within 30 days.
If your information is in an Owlsight customer's system — you're the homeowner, not the plumber — send the request to that business. We'll help them action it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Secrets — API keys, tokens — are encrypted at the application layer before they touch the database. Access to customer systems is limited to the people who need it to do the work.
No system is perfectly secure, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as quickly as we can, with what we actually know rather than what sounds best.
Children
The service is for businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this policy when what we do changes. The version and effective date at the top always tell you which one you're reading. If we make a change that materially reduces your rights, we will tell you before it takes effect — we won't rely on you noticing a new date.
